Never Forget
10 years ago today, my little eight-year-old world was rocked. I was sitting at the dining room table, working on math. My dad was working at home that day, and Mom was busy cleaning our cozy little house. The phone rang, and my dad picked up. When he walked out of the office, his face was all confusion-shock,sadness, and unbelief. He called my mom over, and told her to turn on the TV. He told us that my cousin had called, and that she told him, " The towers are falling! turn on the Tv!" My parents flipped on the news, and, because of the open floor plan in our house, even from the dining room table all of us kids could see what was happening. It was the first and only time we were allowed to stop school to watch the news. We watched, spellbound, as the footage of the first tower played over and over, and then there was much confusion as we saw the smoke pouring out of the second tower. I remember the president's prayer, and I remember seeing thousands of people running, screaming, jumping from windows. I remember wondering what would happen next. It was scary, and too sad for my mind to comprehend. People suddenly cared about God, and everyone started hanging American flags- and I remembered thinking "Why didn't you love America this much before?" A cousin went off to Iraq, and we all prayed. Life began to equalize- we began to start living as we used to, only now as a country at war. 10 years later, we are still a country at war. What happened that day has cost lives- hundreds of them. Families lost loved ones that day, and families continue to lose loved ones as they fight for freedom from terror. May God bless every family that has lost a loved one, either in the September 11 attacks, or in the continuing war on terror. My prayers are with you.
